Since my last two entries on Indian newspapers (On the hunt in London for Indian newspapers, and Indian newspaper search, part two) I’ve now started building up a nice, small collection of 11 Hindi titles. And after a few months of uncertainly, I’m now planning a trip India for later on this month.
Today I got up bright and early for another trip to London. This time, I was headed for the Indian High Commission, which takes visa applications from 8:30–10:30 every morning. Americans come in for special treatment, I guess. Since I’m a US passport holder, I had an additional fee on top of my tourist visa application fee and my non-UK resident fee. My visa should be processed in a week or so. Despite the large number of people lined up outside the embassy as the doors opened, I found the queuing rather efficient, and I was out the door before 10am, and back in Reading at the University before noon.
I’m planning on being in India from the 14th through the 24th of May, first in Delhi, then in Jaipur, and finally in Pune.
Below are some sample images of the newspapers that I’ve collected to date. Some of these were acquired through diplomatic channels, but I’d like to especially thank Satya and Nicolien for the rest.
