Linotype’s fourth TypoTechnica conference to be held here in Frankfurt from April 27th through the 29th. More info can be found at the Linotype website. Here are some of the highlights recently announced there:
[The] keynote speaker will be the young and talented type designer from New York, Christian Schwartz.
The main program will revolve around several main themes such as:
- A review of OpenType and the demands of the next font format generation.
- Newest font development tools.
- Software training.
- Scripting with Python.
- Non-Latin typography and its technical aspects.
- Consumer electronics and fonts.
Speakers will include specialists from industry leaders, Monotype Imaging, now a special collaborator with Linotype’s own font technology specialists. Other key presentations will be given by Microsoft, Fontlab, and many others. Delegates will also benefit from special workshops, where they will be able to interact directly with developers to learn the ins and outs of font technology. All workshops, as well as a Gala Dinner event to be held in a prime Frankfurt location, are included in the conference fee. A special event, free for all conference participants, will be held on Sunday April 29th, when Linotype will organize a special visit to the typographic archives at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University library. Visitors will examine historic samples—including the 1592 Egenolff-Berner specimen that inspired both Stempel Garamond and Sabon Next—from a unique collection of that will surely inspire more innovation.
